Hmm...

Well we're at the end of the week and the amount of painting done is rather little.

Have to try and drum up the enthusiasm to do something tomorrow on the units I've already started (although I also want to get my Elven Steeds undercoated which means I need to put sand on the bases etc etc) rather than starting something else.

Could also do with finishing sticking together the missus' Delves. Having thought the Hydra was a pain in the arse to do I'm now finding the Supreme Sorceress model a right pain due to the arm. I've tried gluing it 3 times now but no go. I'd try pinning it but due to how thin the arm is I really don't want to chance it, especially as my initial attempts to drill into the nub that's supposed to go into the shoulder socket haven't been encouraing.

Would help if I just didn't feel really, really tired this past couple of weeks. I don't know why as I've not been going to bed or getting up at any unusual times. Most annoying.

Wishing I'd painted up the legs and underside of my Elven steeds before I'd glued them together. Finding it rather difficult to get to the legs to paint them without getting paint on bits I don't want to get paint on.

Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks!

Was just coming back from my lunch time painting session when the biscuit tin with my models in slipped off the pile of bits I was carrying. Phoenix Guard, White Lions and miscellaneous everywhere.

On assessing the damage I've now got two broken Phoenix Guard standard bearers who need the standards sticking back on (on what a lovely job that's going to be considering how long it took me to get the bloody standards to stick in the first place), 1 Phoenix Guard musician needing his drum sticking back on, a regular Phoenix Guard needing a halberd reattaching, and last, but not least, my converted spearmen champion needs his helmet plumes sticking back on (again, another job that will be a PITA).

Oh, add to that a couple of halberds that are still attached but looking distinctly worse for wear and will need some sort of strengthening.

Just what I could have done without, especially as I have to hope I don't break anything else on the Spearmen champ getting him home considering he's all plastic.

bah! and now I forgot to bring my black wash into work with me - despite finding it on the side this morning and thinking "What's that doing there". Ended up putting it on my painting table.

Having said that, from the models I worked on in my lunch it looks like I need to go back through my Phoenix Guard and check for bits where the mail wasn't drybrushed properly or where I've missed a bit of armour anyway, so I'm going to do my initial base cloth coats and touch up the metal before I was the armour ready for highlighting.

Thanks. Getting the standards to stick is such a chore that I might even just suck it up and never field the Phoenix Guard with one.

Well I'm managing to get little bits of painting done here and there at the moment. I'm just about done with my three bolt throwers and their crew, although I'm wanting to put the bolt throwers on bases so I can magnetise them for putting in my case (once I've sorted the case out).

I'm still getting some painting done in my lunch at work. I've had to take some more models in to start with as I realised it is going to take me about half an hour to put the base layer of paint on the cloaks of my Phoenix Guard and as I'm not using them in any of my current lists they can go on the back burner.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a teensy query I've got with the model pictured below.

Image

I'm trying to figure out what the bit in the red rectangle is. I can't tell from looking at the model whether it's supposed to be armour, leather or cloth. I've tried to find pictures of a painted version of this online but the only one I could find (on CoolMiniOrNot) has that bit painted in a flame pattern so it's not helping me figure out what it is.

Aha. After poking round on ebay I've discovered that that figure is actually an Archer champion model from way back - might explain why I'm not having much luck finding piccies of him.

That section is definately not more armour mate, personally I'd go with either a leather colour, like the quiver you've already done, or a third shade of blue.

Very nice work by the way!

Yeah I'm leaning towards leather but I'm just not sure it'll look right whichever way I go.
