Hmm... Tried some other Detol and that was equally ineffective.

Well having no other option I went ahead any started painting the Dragon Prince musician as you can see below

Fortunately I think I've lathered on so much silver that you can't really notice the the problem with the paint. Just a few bits to do to this to get it to minimum level for the Midlands Open this weekend.

Ok, here's a couple of pictures of some of the Sword Masters I've got on the go at the moment.

First off a group shot.

Image

As you might notice, I'm actually working on the remainder of two lots of Island of Blood models at the moment (there's about 8 currently in service with the unit of Sword Masters I've been taking to tournaments... Which means at some point I'm going to need to get their paint jobs to match up).

Next up is a photo of my dilemma. Painted the tops of the banners the other day and realised I hadn't cleaned off the mould lines from around that bit

Image

At the moment I'm unsure whether to leave the mould lines and just put up with it or to trim off and patch the paint p again. (I also have the same decision to make with some of my Archers, although with them the mould line is under the arm so you don't actually notice unless you pick the model up and give it a look)

I'm also slightly annoyed at myself for not thinking to paint the Sword Master banners first before sticking them to the model. I'm going to try and remember to do that if I end up doing any more banner bearers. Also plan to do it with my Dragon Princes as the one I've got in progress at the moment was a right pain to paint to the stage it's currently at.

I realise this may be a bit late now, but I'll just chip in with my personal experience of stripping models. While I've had some success with pine disinfectants (like Detol), the best I've used so far has been Fairy Power Spray - I think you can get it in most supermarkets. I've not had any problems with it eating plastic, but it will loosen superglue and PVA bonds.

Sorry I didn't read this earlier!

Might have some of that lying round... Will try and give it a go next time I need to strip models

Just a quick update...

So, recently went to the Milton Keynes Massacre, which was a 1 day, 1600 point tournament (battle report up here). Fortunately due to the points level it didn't require any additional painting other than the usual quick check over of the metal models (although a couple managed to get chipped somewhere along the way) and just the borrowing of a model to stand in for an Eagle.

What's next on the agenda? Well, originally I'd planned to go to the Mansfield Maul but with my money situation at the moment I'm probably going to have to leave any more tournaments until after Christmas.

Painting-wise the new revised, honest-to-goodness, will be stuck to plan, is to try and work up the Sword Masters and Sea Guard I'm currently working on to finished status. At the moment I'm working on this during lunch, so progress is going in fits and starts (some bits seem to take forever no matter how many times I do them, others seem to go about ten times quicker the second time I do them). I'm hoping that when we start tidying up the lounge, hopefully in time for my daughter's first birthday party, I'll find the piece of paper I wrote down my painting recipes on I used for my White Lions as I'm trying to do two different hair colours with my elves so it makes for a bit of variety on the models.

At home, on the odd occasion I get a chance to do anything hobby related, the plan to to get on with making up my scenery (especially before I get the missus to buy me any more as Christmas or birthday presents... extremely tempting though it is to say "put the Garden of Morr kit on the list") and cleaning up other models ready for painting at some point in the future.

With the money situation as it is at present I'm going to be resisting the urge to buy any more models (at least until GW get round to releasing Great Eagles in finecast). I also hope to get round to taking my Storm of Magic book out of the cellophane at some point and read through that.

If you want advice on stripping plastics, have a word with me at the club.

I stripped all my Ogres using Dettol, it's only a certain type that works and you have to do the process a certain way.
Dave stripped his Vostroyans after I told him the method too.

Here goes with the almost monthly update...

Ok, not an awful lot of actual hobby going on. Ended up not getting in as many games at the club as I was hoping as my car went kaput and I couldn't guarantee I was going to get down for it. Almost ended up not having a game this week as my opponent couldn't make it but there was another fantasy player whose opponent was a no show so a I managed a game against his Skaven.

Game ended up a draw - not helped by the fact that for some reason I must have taken my army list out of my army box after my last club game and couldn't quite remember everything in the list, so I spent the game thinking I was playing around 100 points down. I wasn't far off actually, I'd forgotten the 25 points for the BSB but that still left about 65 points I didn't actually use (forgot a magic item and a few extra models in units).

Anyway, I lost both Eagles and killed a Warlock Engineer and a Warpfire Thrower. Any further carnage was stopped by some deployment errors on my opponent's behalf which stopped his rats running all over my elves like Skaven normally do.

Painting wise I'm still only getting things done at work. I've just brought back some Sea Guard I was working on, having done as much as I'm able/comfortable with without the aid of my magnifier, and taken in about half of my more up-to-date (in terms of how I'm painting them) Spearmen. I realised the last time I used them that quite a few of the unit didn't have the red trim colour on, so that needs doing.

Having had to do a tidy up in time for my daughter's first birthday I have finally found my painting recipe for the White Lions so I'm planning to type up the important bits before I lose it again. I aslo found another batch of Sea Guard I'd bought, so I won't need to buy as many as I thought to be able to make up a couple of units of 30 (since I normally try and have enough models to make up a couple of reasonable size units).

Oh look, it's a monthly update...

So, what have I been up to in the hobby this past month?

Well, I actually managed to get three games in.

The first was a 1000 points against long time Empire opponent Andy. Or at least it was supposed to be, only he turned up with an illegal list, putting too many characters in for the 250pt allowance, and then forgot to put stuff in to compensate for the character he had to remove, so it ended up more as 1000 vs 800-ish, something I didn't realise until after the game.

Although it ended up as a massaacre in my favour with no victory points given away it was actually pretty close game as he'd brought two mortars which took chunks out of my chariots and infantry but he just couldn't land the final blow to finish off units.

Next game was at the club against long time Orcs & Goblins/Lizardmen opponent Nick with his current Lizardmen 2400pt build. Unfortunately for me this was the first loss with my current 2400 point list. While I've made changes to the list since the last tournament I went to I'm not sure they're going to help me much against my bogey armies (er... which is pretty much all of them).

Last game was at the club again playing against Brooks Martin with his Warriors of Chaos list for the Winter Incursion. The last time we played he gave me a bit of a kicking but this time I was the one dishing out the pain (Mindrazor most definitely for the win) although this has to be born in the light of us playing one rule wrong and him forgetting his Will of Chaos re-roll on his Chaos Knights and Warriors which saw the knights and his general's block of Warriors running away.

Other than that there's been some more slogging away with the painting during my lunch breaks plus a teensy bit done last week when I was on holiday. Did try and get some done tonight only to give up when I couldn't find one of the Sword Masters I was wanting to get on with painting.

I'm also still a bit annoyed that I haven't found my box of hobby drill bits and am becoming increasingly resigned to having to get myself some more. It also looks like I'm going to be away from the tournament scene a bit longer than I was planning to be after a larger than expected bill from the car's MOT & Service has eaten into my funds.

What was the reason for the 1000 point game - just for a change or a new player?
